Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A dangerous near-miss occurred over Serpukhov involving an Uzbekistan Airways aircraft and an Embraer Legacy 650 business jet.
The incident took place during the night of September 29, when an Airbus A320 was operating a flight from Samarkand to Moscow, and the Embraer jet was traveling from Bodrum to Vnukovo.
According to Rosaviatsiya, the incident was caused by an air traffic control error.
The crew of the Uzbek plane received instructions to descend to 10,000 feet but mistakenly descended to 9,000 feet, while the controllers failed to notice the deviation.
As a result, the horizontal distance between the two aircraft narrowed to three kilometers, and the vertical separation dropped to 700 feet, whereas the minimum safety standards require five kilometers and 1,000 feet, respectively.
Collision avoidance systems were triggered, and no real threat of an accident occurred. Both aircraft landed safely.
Rosaviatsiya classified the event as an aviation incident and has launched an investigation.
