CCTV footage showing electric motorbikes being “driven dangerously” in York city centre is just one example of a noticeable increase in illegal riding in the city, police have said.

The video was filmed just after midnight on Tuesday and shows four people riding Sur-Ron bikes over Ouse Bridge, North Yorkshire Police said.

The force said the riders not only put “the safety of pedestrians and other motorists at risk”, but their unacceptable driving was “intimidating for members of the public”.

Illegal riding of electric motorbikes is on the rise in York and other areas of North Yorkshire, it added.
