Dan Lanning Reveals Future Plans Amid Rumors About Leaving Oregon

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning has only lost seven games since joining the Ducks in 2022. Since then, he has taken the program to the postseason three times, including its first trip to the College Football Playoff since 2014 last season. He heads into Week 10 with a 7-1 record, but has still been tied to various college football head coaching openings. Florida let go of Billy Napier, and more recently, LSU fired Brian Kelly. Lanning has been named as a candidate for the Florida job via Gators Wire and was mentioned as a Kelly replacement for LSU by Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt. However, on a recent appearance on the “Rich Eisen Show,” Lanning shut down the rumors. “It’s zero,” Lanning said. “Yeah, I’m not leaving Oregon,” Lanning said. “As long as I win, that’s what I always tell my kids. If your dad wins, we’ll be at Oregon. So I’ve got to win. That’s how it changes.” Even though he put an end to any rumors of him leaving Eugene, Lanning does have experience in the SEC. He was a graduate assistant at Alabama in 2015 and an assistant for Georgia from 2018-2021. Last season, he brought home the Big Ten title for Oregon in its first season in the conference after taking down Penn State 45-37, securing a first-round bye in the CFP. Oregon joined the Big Ten, alongside UCLA, USC and Washington, in 2024. However, Oregon’s time in the playoff did not last long, as Ohio State took down the Ducks 41-21. This season, the Ducks are led under center by quarterback Dante Moore, who has thrown for 1,772 passing yards, 19 touchdowns and four interceptions. Moore was a former five-star quarterback who spent one season with UCLA before transferring to Oregon in 2024. Lanning and Oregon have a bye this weekend before taking on Iowa on Nov. 8.
