Dadasaheb Phalke Biopic On Hold As Aamir Khan Requests Script Re-write? Here’s What We Know

Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani have given two amazing films to Bollywood with PK and 3 Idiots, and now there are reports that the duo will collaborate for yet another film, this time for a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the man known as the father of Indian cinema. While there were claims that the film would go on floors soon, a new update has it that Aamir has requested a script re-writing as he believes that it currently lacks comedy.
An anonymous source told Bollywood Hungama, “Aamir Khan heard the script of Dadasaheb Phalke from Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi. He felt that the script didn’t have enough elements to make it suitable for a theatrical release. He expected Raju and Abhijat to follow their usual approach of blending laughter with emotion and drama. But the script lacked comedy, which raised doubts in Aamir’s mind, prompting him to ask Raju to rewrite it.”
“Raju and Abhijat were shocked by Aamir’s reaction and are now considering their next steps. The film, which was scheduled to begin production in October 2025, is no longer on track to go on floors next month. Everything is currently at a standstill, and Aamir has already begun exploring other scripts, hearing stories from across industries,” the source further continued and shared.
The life of Dadasaheb Phalke is an important chapter in Indian film history. He made Raja Harishchandra, India’s first full-length feature film, back in 1913. Telling his story on the big screen will be a big moment for Indian cinema.
According to reports, the team is leaving no stone unturned to ensure authenticity. FX studios in Los Angeles have already created AI-powered visual references to help recreate the time period of the story.
Interestingly, the script has been in the works for over four years. It’s being shaped by a talented writing team, including Rajkumar Hirani himself, along with Abhijat Joshi, Hindukush Bharadwaj, and Avishkar Bharadwaj.
