With heavy rains under the influence of Cyclone Montha causing major disruption to rail and road transport in Mahabubabad district of Telangana on Wednesday (October 29, 2025), several trains were stranded for hours, and many low-lying areas were inundated. The Golconda Express bound for Hyderabad was halted at Dornakal Junction as tracks were submerged in rainwater, while the Krishna Express heading to Tirupati was stopped at Mahabubabad railway station. Several goods trains on the Warangal–Khammam route were also detained due to flooding of tracks. Responding to the situation, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sudhir Ramnath Kekan personally supervised relief measures and instructed officers to ensure passengers’ safety and comfort. Acting on his directions, the Town Circle Inspector (CI) Mahender Reddy, Rural CI Saravaiah, and Dornakal CI Chandramouli, along with other police personnel, distributed water bottles, biscuit packets, and pulihora parcels to passengers stranded on trains at Dornakal, Gundrathumadugu and Mahabubabad. The district administration is making arrangements to shift some passengers to the nearby bus station so that they can continue their journey to their destinations by bus. The SP said the police would continue to assist people during emergencies. Collector Adwait Kumar Singh, along with him, met the station manager at Dornakal to take stock of the situation. Heavy rains also prompted the district administration to declare a holiday for all government and private schools. District Education Officer (DEO) Dakshina Murthy said the decision was taken in view of the continuing downpour across the district. Several low-lying areas were waterlogged, standing crops damaged, and road connectivity disrupted as streams overflowed at multiple points. The district administration urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid travel in vulnerable areas.
