Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has pegged the loss due the havoc created by the Montha Cyclone in the State at ₹5,265 crore. “As per the preliminary estimates the agriculture suffered a loss of ₹826 crore while the destruction of roads and bridges caused ₹2079 crore loss,’’ the Chief Minister told newspersons in Amaravati on Thursday. With the losses incurred in various other sectors, the total loss for the State which experienced heavy rains and winds and flood in the last four days was ₹5,265 crore, Naidu said. While there was no loss of life, 120 cattle were dead due to the cyclone, he said, adding that advanced preparations and readiness of the State official machinery with coordination between the different departments helped in minimising the loss to a maximum extent. To help the needy, every family was geo-tagged and power was restored within three years wherever it was disrupted as against over 10 overs in the previous cyclonic disturbances, according to the Chief Minister. Special measures The Government took special measures to provide relief to the pregnant women in the cyclone-affected districts by identifying over 3,000 pregnant women and kept rescue and relief teams ready to support them if required. The Real Time Governance Centre in Amaravati, set up by the NDA Government in the State after it came to power last year, played a key role in monitoring and emergency response, according to officials. The drones were also deployed on a large scale for collecting information and hastening rescue and relief efforts. The Chennai-based drone manufacturer, Garuda Aerospace, has deployed over 100 drones to support the Andhra Pradesh Drones Corporation in Cyclone Montha relief operations across the State.
