Tamil Nadu is drenched in heavy rains on Wednesday (October 22) as a cyclonic circulation moves up from the South Bay of Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported a low-pressure system over the Southeast Arabian Sea turning into a depression, while another system over the Southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify. The met department issues an 'orange alert' for Chennai today as torrential rain continues to lash across the city, flooding roads and affecting the daily lives of people. Moreover, as per the alert, the rain is likely to increase, leading to significant waterlogging and localised flooding. Fishermen warnings Further, the fishermen are advised not to venture into the Southeast and adjoining Eastcentral Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep and Comorin Area, and along and off Karnataka, Kerala, and adjoining South Tamil Nadu coasts till October 24.
