Cyclists armed with machete attacked by axe-wielding man in 'terrifying' incident

Two cyclists, who were wearing balaclavas and armed with a machete, were confronted by a man in a street armed with an axe. The incident was witnessed by an innocent bystander who was left "terrified". The two men wearing balaclavas managed to disarm the axe-wielding man, a court heard. CCTV captured Isaiah Queeley, 27, running out of his home in Cardiff on September 22 with the axe after the two youths turned up on bicycles. One of them was armed with a machete. He swung it at one of the cyclists but was quickly disarmed. A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Wednesday heard the cyclists swung the machete towards Queeley, who was not fighting back and holding his hands up in defence, reports WalesOnline. A witness walking through Helen Place, Splott, came across the incident and was "terrified" by what he saw. He called the police who saw the defendant had been injured after suffering lacerations to his right arm. On the CCTV footage, the two cyclists could be heard saying "You what" and "You p****". Queeley, of Helen Place, later pleaded guilty to affray and possession of a bladed article. The court heard he has previous convictions for burglary and assault occasioning ABH against an ex partner. In mitigation, Kirsten Murphy said her client has mental health issues and was taken into care as a young boy as a result of his behavioural issues. He later moved back in with his mother and studied a business management degree at university. Ms Murphy said Queeley had previously been attacked with a machete and hospitalised with lacerations to his hands. As a result, he was "triggered" by the two cyclists after what had happened to him previously. Sentencing, Judge Shomon Khan said: "It would have been absolutely terrifying to see you with an axe trying to attack another person, swinging it at another male and narrowly missing. "The whole scene was terrifying for the innocent bystander who couldn't believe what he was seeing. There was a risk of escalation and of harm and disorder." Queeley was sentenced to a total of 20 months imprisonment. The North Wales Live Whatsapp community for top stories and breaking news is live now - here’s how to sign up
