Cuyahoga County is returning $35 million to cities, schools - how much is your community getting?

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cuyahoga County announced it was able to save enough money on real estate assessments for the sexennial appraisal that it can return a record $35 million to schools and communities – including itself.
The money is collected from taxing authorities to fund the equipment and staffing needed to do real estate assessments, which resulted in an average 32% increase in property values across the county during the latest sexennial reappraisal process. But the county said it was able to complete that work faster than expected and under budget, allowing it to return $35 million in collections to support local services and schools, which are the primary benefactor.
The county itself will also benefit, though, getting back over $5 million in funding that would have been tied up in assessments but now can be used for other county spending. That breaks down to $1.6 million for the Health and Human Services Levy Fund, $1.5 million for “health and welfare,” $1.2 million for the Board of Developmental Disabilities, nearly $600,000 for the General Fund, and about $188,000 for bond retirement, according to county records.
The Cleveland Metropolitan School District is getting the second-largest return of over $3.7 million. Five other schools are getting over $1 million in returns, while the remaining schools and communities will see a range of hundreds of thousands of dollars down to $76 – for Linndale.
Communities are expected to receive their cash by the end of October.
