A company with operations in Connecticut is laying off dozens of workers in what it says is a necessary business reduction just before the holidays.
ImageFIRST Healthcare Laundry Specialists, LLC of Farmington and Pennsylvania, recently notified the state Department of Labor and the town council chairman of the cuts as required by law under the federal WARN Act, which requires employers to give 60 days notice of mass layoffs.
“Due to a reduction in business volumes, ImageFIRST has determined that a workforce reduction will be necessary at this location,” the notification said.
Messages seeking comment were left with the company.
The impacted Connecticut plant is at 1838 New Britain Ave. in Farmington. The company lists other in-state locations in New Britain and New Haven. It lists layoffs of 71 positions.
Image FIRST offers says it is “a seamless, fully managed solution for all types of medical facilities, including large hospital systems, outpatient centers, specialty clinics, and more” to ensure staff has “clean, high-quality healthcare linens.” The company also says it serves restaurants and hotels.
The company, founded in 1967 and acquired by Calera Capital in 2018, operates across the country, according to its website.
In July, the company announced the layoffs of another 90 employees with a plant closure in St. Louis, Mo., because a hospital canceled its contract.
The layoffs in Farmington are scheduled to occur over 14-day periods beginning Dec. 8 and Dec. 19, according to the WARN notice.
None of the employees, most of whom are listed as production associates, have bumping rights or are represented by a union.
