Tether valuation 2025: Tether Holdings SA, the company behind the world’s largest stablecoin, is in early talks with investors to raise as much as $20 billion, a move that could propel it into the same valuation league as OpenAI and Elon Musk’s SpaceX, as per a report.Tether seeks up to $20B funding in private placementAccording to a Bloomberg report, citing people familiar with the discussions, Tether is considering offering a roughly 3% stake through a private placement, targeting between $15 billion and $20 billion. Tether’s Potential $500B valuation could rival OpenAI and SpaceXWhile those are top-end figures and final numbers could come in lower, such a deal would value Tether around $500 billion, an extraordinary milestone for a crypto firm that operates in a lightly regulated sector, as per the Bloomberg report.For comparison, Circle, the closest rival to Tether in the stablecoin market, is valued at about $30 billion, a fraction of what Tether’s proposed deal suggests, according to the report.Tether’s CEO Paolo Ardoino confirmed the company is weighing a raise from a group of high-profile investors. The company has made billions by investing its reserves in cash-like assets such as US Treasuries, racking up $4.9 billion in profit in the second quarter alone, reported Bloomberg. Ardoino has even claimed Tether’s profit margin sits near 99%.Tether prepares a comeback in the US crypto marketThe fundraising push also comes as Tether looks to reestablish its presence in the United States. The company had largely stayed away from the market after clashing with regulators and paying a $41 million fine in 2021 over reserve disclosures, according to Bloomberg. But with US president Donald Trump’s pro-crypto stance, Tether has laid plans for a US-regulated stablecoin and hired Bo Hines, a former White House crypto official, to lead the initiative, as per the report.Cantor Fitzgerald is advising Tether on the potential deal.
