Crocodile mauls boy, 14, at Cape Tribulation beach

A 14-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after being bitten by a crocodile in far north Queensland. Paramedics were called to Myall Beach near Cape Tribulation, outside Cairns, on Saturday afternoon in response to reports the teenager had been mauled by a crocodile. A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson says the teenager had wounds to his leg and abdomen. After the attack, the casualty was brought through the beach access to nearby accommodation PKs Jungle Village. Manager Harry Hartley said that initial first aid was performed by some nurses staying at the hostel, as well as by locals. "People came out of the rainforest to help," he said. "The Cape community came together." Local business owner Lawrence Mason said the boy was then brought through his property where the Rescue 510 helicopter had room to land on one of his fields. The Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service said the boy's condition remained stable. Rangers from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service are investigating. At least four crocodile sightings have been reported in the Cape Tribulation area in the past month, including one on Wednesday, which remains under investigation. QPWS is asking the public to report crocodile sightings to the department.
