Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded stoppage for Nagercoil-Chennai Egmore Vande Bharat at Virudhunagar.
The party’s Virudhunagar district committee meeting held here on Thursday said that Virudhunagar town being the district headquarters and a traditional business town. The railway junction is being used by people from the towns of Rajapalayam, Srivilliputtur, Sivakasi, Aruppukottai and Kariyapatti and Tiruchuli region to go to different parts of the State.
The Nagercoil-Chennai Egmore Vande Bharat that stops at Kovilpatti does not have a halt at Virudhunagar.
“People who want to travel by this superfast day train has to travel all the way to Madurai by road, resulting in additional travel expenses and time” a resolution said. The conference chaired by district executive committee member L. Murugan in the presence of district secretary A. Gurusamy also sought extension of Virudhunagar-Tiruchi passenger train run via Manamadurai, Karaikkudi upto Rajapalayam.
Another resolution said that the train departs from Virudhunagar at 6 a.m. and arrives Virudhunagar at 9 p.m.
Hence, people from Rajapalayam could not reach home late in the night due to lack of adequate bus services.
The committee also demanded to open a ticket counter on Eastern side in the station for the benefit of the passengers.
