CPI (M) General Secretary M.A. Baby accuses BJP of giving communal tinge to Telangana Peasants Armed Struggle

The historic Telangana Peasants Armed Struggle (1946-51) will remain immortal as an inspiring Red Flag movement in the annals of history for ensuring right over the land to the tillers and landless poor besides paving the way for land reforms not only in Telangana but elsewhere in the country, said Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary M.A. Baby.

He was speaking at a meeting held to mark the conclusion of the week-long observance of the Telangana Peasants’ Armed Struggle in Khammam town on Wednesday evening.

“I salute the valiant fighters of the historic struggle including the female commander late comrade Mallu Swarajyam, who fought against the feudal lords with indomitable courage during the peasants’ uprising,” he said.

Their saga of struggle and sacrifice was real inspiration for similar mass movements in various parts of the country, he noted.

Hitting out at the BJP, Mr. Baby alleged that the BJP-RSS combine was hell-bent on giving a communal tinge to the historic struggle. “The RSS had no role in the freedom struggle and in the peasants’ and working-class struggles. The RSS’s intent is to spread its poisonous ideology and transform India into a majoritarian Hindu Rashtra,” he alleged.

He said, “People should be wary of such divisive forces and defeat the communal polarisation politics. The need of the hour is to develop Left and democratic forces, to fight and defeat the RSS-BJP combine.”

CPI (M) Central Committee member Tammineni Veerabhadram and other senior party leaders spoke.
