Cowboys' Jerry Jones again pokes Micah Parsons bear

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones unsurprisingly continues to defend the controversial trade that resulted in Dallas sending star pass-rusher Micah Parsons to theGreen Bay Packers for two first-round draft selections and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark in late August.
During a Friday appearance on Dallas sports radio station 105.3 The Fan, Jones once again addressed the Parsons trade ahead of this coming Sunday’s game between the 2-1 Packers and 1-2 Cowboys that will be held at Dallas’ AT&T Stadium.
Jerry Jones brings up Micah Parsons’ lack of Super Bowl rings
“While he does make great plays, there is also a way to approach playing against Micah,” Jones explained, as shared by Tyler Lauletta of Sports Illustrated. “As we know, we didn’t exactly win the Super Bowl those years.”
Jones technically is correct, but it’s hardly Parsons’ fault that the Cowboys haven’t played in even an NFC Championship game since they won the Super Bowl in January 1996. Meanwhile, Jones has insisted on multiple occasions that one reason he accepted Green Bay’s offer for Parsons was that Dallas needed to bolster its run defense.
According to ESPN stats, the Cowboys surrendered the fourth-most rushing yards per game (137.1) last season. To compare, Dallas enters the final weekend of September ranked 17th in opponent rushing yards (109.7 per contest) for the ongoing campaign.
Jerry Jones gives Micah Parsons more bulletin board material
Jones has repeatedly given Parsons bulletin-board material leading up to Sunday’s prime-time matchup. For example, the Cowboys don’t intend to show any type of video tribute for Parsons before the game kicks off.
On Friday, Jones touched upon his feelings regarding Parsons’ Dallas tenure.
“Some plays it looks beautiful, but then other plays — especially running plays — you wish you had a different formation,” Jones said about what Parsons did and/or didn’t offer the Cowboys defense. “To be trite, we lost games with Micah.”
Earlier in the week, Parsons acknowledged that possibly sacking good friend and Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott during Sunday’s game could be a “painful” experience. Prescott later said he’s not looking for any “closure” related to the Parsons trade, and Jones echoed that take on Friday.
“Candidly, if closure were an issue, I should’ve had that discussion with the mirror before I made the trade,” Jones added during the segment, per Nikki Chavanelle of Sports Illustrated. “Dak’s absolutely right. That was when all the drama was gone, is when you decided to make the trade.”
It will be interesting to see if Parsons publicly responds to Jones before Sunday night arrives.
