Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and Green Bay Packers linebacker Micah Parsons meeting on the field for the first time as opponents had their moments.
The Cowboys traded Parsons to the Packers before the season, and his first game back in Dallas resulted in a 40-40 tie in overtime on Sunday night. Parsons had his part in holding off the Cowboys from a win when he sacked Prescott on second and goal in overtime. Dallas settled for a field goal, and that’s all the Packers could muster on the following drive, too.
“I don’t think he got me. I don’t think he sacked me,” Prescott informed NBC Sports’ Melissa Stark regarding the play. “Got me once from behind right there in overtime,”
Stark then confirmed for Prescott that Parsons did sack him. Parsons finished with three tackles and a sack.
“No way!” Prescott exclaimed after Stark told him. “That’s alright, that’s alright. He can have it, he can have it.”
Prescott finished 31-40 for 319 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions, and a 2-yard rushing score. He only took the sack from Parsons, but the former Penn State star also collected three quarterback hits on Prescott.
“Dak played a hell of a game, and I give him kudos for that,” Parsons said in the postgame press conference.
Dak Prescott Gets Honest on Stalled OT Drive
For Prescott, he wasn’t happy with how that overtime drive stalled. Prescott set up the chance for a touchdown with a 34-yard pass to wide receiver Jalen Tolbert.
“It’s just all about not letting your teammates down,” Prescott told reporters afterward. “Going 100 percent every play. I owe it to every person in the organization, every person in our locker room, to give my absolute best every single time. I’m here on this podium because I’m supposed to make that play.”
Dallas’ defense then had to hold off Packers quarterback Jordan Love, who completed six passes during the 13-play, 64-yard drive that resulted in a game-tying field goal. It took forcing Love to make completions for negative yards, followed by clock mismanagement, for the Cowboys to escape with a tie.
“I’m supposed to help our defense,” Prescott said. “That’s why I was brought here. Making plays is what I’m supposed to do. Taking over games is what I’m supposed to do. I don’t think I should be rewarded for that play.”
2 Cowboys Stars Got Paid a Year Before Micah Parsons Trade
Prescott and Parsons played together for four years with the Cowboys before the trade. The Cowboys drafted Prescott in the fourth round for 2016, and he received a major contract of $240 million in 2024.
Prescott isn’t the only Cowboys star with a massive deal. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who didn’t play on Sunday due to injury, received a $136 million deal last year, too, in his fifth season since the Cowboys took him No. 17 in the 2020 draft.
Dallas selected Parsons with the No. 12 pick in 2021, but the Cowboys didn’t follow suit on a big contract for the four-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro. The contract drama last all offseason before the Cowboys ultimately traded Parsons, who had a fifth-year rookie contract option with Dallas.
