Couple Took 3 Years To Turn Old School Bus Into Dream Home And It Is So Wholesome

Once seen as a quirky lifestyle choice, living in a converted school bus has now become a growing trend for people who crave freedom, independence and adventure. And one couple, Paul and Shae have turned this dream into reality by transforming a 2006 International school bus into a fully functional home on wheels.
The duo shared a video on Instagram giving a glimpse into their incredible three-year-long project and it’s nothing short of inspiring. The clip captures their entire journey of converting the yellow bus into a cozy ride, perfectly designed for travel, work and everyday living.
Wrapped in white vinyl with their playful “BusLife4Me” logo and vibrant stripes, the bus is impossible to miss. Practical features like a sturdy bike rack at the front, fresh tires and a security camera show how they left no detail unchecked. But what really makes their home stand out are the unique, thoughtful additions.

On the side, Paul and Shae fitted a 15-foot manual sunshade to create an outdoor lounge area, and on the roof, they built a six-by-six wooden deck for nights and scenic views. The roof also holds a WeBoost cell signal booster for connectivity on the go and four 450-watt solar panels. The interiors of the 42-foot-long bus are equally impressive and designed with both practicality and comfort.
At the front, there were dual office spaces with dedicated desks, swivel chairs and storage. Between these workstations sits a small, multipurpose lounge with cushioned benches, hidden storage and a foldable table, perfect for meals, work or just relaxing.
Well-Planned Kitchen And Bathroom
Opposite the lounge is a well-planned kitchen with modern appliances, including a two-burner induction cooktop, oven and air fryer. The bathroom area reflects their creative approach to tiny living. At the rear, the couple created a serene bedroom with a queen-sized bed, walking platforms on both sides and clever under-bed storage that houses a 75-liter water tank and seasonal clothes.
The bamboo plank ceiling, wooden countertops and soft decor like rugs and cushions added to the rustic vibe. Paul and Shae revealed that their bus cost just $6,000 when they bought it in March 2022. With every weekend dedicated to building the bus, it took them three years and about $25,000 in total to complete the transformation.
Welcome To The Bus Life Fam
Alongside the video, the couple wrote, “Our bus conversion from start to finish so crazy to watch the project of a lifetime in one video! We posted the extended, in-depth 10-minute version of this video on our YouTube (Bus Life 4 Me) if you want to see all the details this conversion really entailed. We are so grateful for everyone who has watched & supported us along this journey! & if you’re new here, welcome to the Bus Life fam. We hope you follow along for the ride!!!”
Paul and Shae have been living and traveling in their bus home for a few months now which is extra special because of the hard work and dedication they put into making the house.
