Kyle Schwarber is one of the biggest names on the open market, and the Phillies likely want to keep him around. However, paying for another star could prevent that. The Phillies seem to be the favorites to sign Schwarber this offseason, keeping him in Philadelphia. However, the Phillies may also be interested in Kyle Tucker. The team needs help in the outfield, and Tucker is a superstar. He could fetch north of $400 million in free agency. CBS Sports’ Matt Snyder predicted the Phillies would land Kyle Tucker this offseason, meaning it would be difficult for them to also keep Schwarber. Snyder predicted the Chicago Cubs would sign Schwarber after the Phillies sign Tucker. If he does, there’s a perfect fit with his original team in the Cubs,” wrote Snyder on Tuesday. “They need more home run power, there’s plenty of familiarity here and there’s an open DH spot, as things stand. It’s a nice fit. The issue will be getting Tom Ricketts to open up his pocketbook, but with a familiar face, it seems possible.” Schwarber is a National League MVP finalist, and a reunion with the team he won a World Series with would make plenty of sense. The Cubs are not expected to re-sign Tucker, and while Schwarber will not be cheap, he will be cheaper than Tucker. For the Phillies, losing Schwarber would be a massive blow to the fan base and their offense. However, Tucker is a phenomenal player who would make up for losing Schwarber. He is a four-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger. He had a down year last season, but perhaps it had more to do with Wrigley Field and his hand injury. On the road, he had a .923 OPS and hit 15 of his 23 home runs. At home, he had a .747 OPS. He has 134 home runs since the start of 2020 and would be a great long-term addition to the team.
