Plans have been submitted for a former Costa coffee site in North Wales. In the summer of last year it was announced that two Costa sites were closing in the region. These were in Ruthin and at the Bay View shopping centre in Colwyn Bay . A sign in the Ruthin cafe said staff were "heartbroken" to announce it was closing. There was a mixed reaction locally. Many said they would miss Costa in their town and also expressed sympathy for the local staff affected. Others said it would actually be good for the independent cafes in each of the areas. It would be a very different use for the site with an application from CAD Properties for a dental practice. They said: "This is a full application for the change of use from an A3 to D1, for use by a dental practice. The scheme entails no external alterations (with the exception of signage provision, which will be dealt with under the advertisement regulations and does not form part of this application); internally the basic layout will be retained, with additional internal walls constructed to create treatment rooms." They added: "Such use would be compatible with the character of the town centre and would enhance the vitality and viability of the centre and is appropriate to the building itself. "The proposed use will not intensify the use, attract unwanted behaviour or operate at anti-social hours. "The proposal seeks to broaden the offerings within Ruthin, to serve the local community health needs and provide employment opportunities. The scheme is therefore, considered to comply with the LDP and will continue to support a thriving town centre." The proposal will now be considered by planners at Denbighshire council.
