Coronation Street's Sally Dynevor says 'we made it' and declares love after major move with her son

Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor has been flooded with messages of love and praise as she said ‘we made it’ after completing a major charity mission with her son. The actress, who is famed for playing namesake Sally Metcalfe in the ITV soap, revealed she’d complete her trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro with her son, Samuel, after taking on the charity effort for a cause close to her heart. Sally revealed earlier this year that she was preparing for the huge challenge on behalf of Prevent Breast Cancer, the charity she is a patron of, having faced her own breast cancer journey. The charity challenge comes almost 16 years after her own diagnosis. Sally was told she had the disease in November 2009, at the same time she was filming heartbreaking Corrie scenes, which saw her much-loved character reeling from the news that she had the same disease. Sally and Sam began their mission to trek up the dormant Tanzanian volcano, which is the highest free-standing mountain above sea level in the world, at 5,895m, over the weekend, alongside a number of other fundraisers last week. It was then on Wednesday (September 10) Sally appeared live from the trek on ITV’s Lorraine, marking a rare TV appearance for her son, Sam, whose siblings, Phoebe and Hattie, are actresses like their mum. Speaking live to show host Lorraine Kelly, Sally said: “We’ve done so well so far. We’ve raised nearly £80,000, Lorraine, which is an incredible about of money. We’re so pleased.” Of Sam, Sally said: “I’m so happy Sam’s with me. It’s tough, isn’t it Sam?” to which he replied: “It is tough but I’ve got to say Lorraine, I’m so immensely proud of mum. To be able to do a challenge with her is amazing. She’s smashing it!” It was then on Sunday (September 14) that Sally returned to social media as she confirmed she, Sam and their fellow trekkers had reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. Alongside a string of pictures, the soap star shared: “We made it. THANK YOU to everyone who sponsored us. @samdynevor and I really appreciate your donations to a wonderful charity @preventbreastcancer. “The most incredible week. So challenging in every way. Thank you @adventurepeaks and the team for getting us there. @preventbreastcancer for organising. The best bunch of people ever. Love you all xxx.” And the messages quickly came flooding in. @michellewardingley said: “Absolutely amazing Sally. Congratulations to you all.” @samcgooderham commented: “Well done all of you.
