Coronation Street fans were left furious when Lisa Swain decided to postpone her wedding to Carla Connor on Friday's edition of the world's longest-running TV soap. Viewers of the ITV show have been caught up in the romance of factory boss Carla and the police officer since they got together in November last year, and they have become a social media sensation known as Swarla . When Lisa first arrived on the scene, she revealed that her wife Becky, also a police officer, had been killed in the line of duty some years earlier but she got a shock a few months ago when it emerged that was all a corrupt police cover up centring on a crime gang, and Becky had been alive and well and living in Spain as part of a corrupt cover up . Since making herself known, Becky has spent the last few months turning up unannounced at number six and bonding with their daughter Betsy once again. In the latest episode, Lisa and Carla were gearing up for a wedding dress fitting when Lisa was told by her boss DI Costello, who orchestrated the fake death in the first place, that there was no way she could get married. In disbelief, she said to Costello: "Right, so, just to be clear, I can't get married the official way because if I speak to a lawyer, then the authorities could find out that Becky's still alive and Curtis's mob could get a tip-off. And I can't go down the unofficial route because you've suddenly and conveniently decided to get a conscience?" He did suggest that Becky could quietly go back to Spain, but she didn't seem to keen. Popping over to Underworld, Lisa interrupted Carla's business meeting to deliver the bad news. She said: "Listen, I've just been talking to Costello about the wedding and to see if there's a way I wouldn't get done for bigamy, and there isn't. If people find out that I know she's alive, I could go to prison." The no-nonsense factory boss laughed as she noted: "Well, ,in that case, clearly, Becky needs to come out of hiding, then you can get a divorce," but Lisa claimed that doing that could spell trouble for their daughter Betsy. Lisa then clarified: "I'm sorry, Carla, I really am. But I think I've just been burying my head in the sand. Costello says there's no way we can get married." Struggling to take it all in, Carla raged: " If Becky can't come out in the open, then you can't get divorced. Did Costello really tell you that we can't get married or is this just you wanting to buy yourself more time? To decide who you really want?" Lisa said: "Carla, I want to spend the rest of my life with you, you know that. I just can't be married to two people at the same time." Carla insisted that if Becky simply went back to Spain, then nobody need know but Lisa was having none of it. In the end, Carla stormed out, accusing Lisa of 'trying to find excuses' for them not to tie the knot. All this comes just days after Becky decided to kiss Lisa during a Halloween party at the Rovers Return, and prior to that, Lisa admitted to Roy that she still had some sort of feelings for her. That afternoon, Lisa called round back at the factory with a copy of Becky's death certificate and the pair vowed to get married whatever it took. But in telling scenes, Costello told Becky to go back to Spain, and she refused. Determined to get her family back and take Lisa back from Carla, she swore she would hang around for years until she got what she wanted. But Costello then told her in no uncertain terms that the death of Tia Wardley, a homeless girl who was killed and used in the cover-up plot, was not a 'random accident' and he would get rid of her in the same way if he needed to. The corrupt police officer then gave Becky, who has been pretending to be Lisa's sister Kim all this time, a week to sort things out. That night, Carla was less than delighted when Becky battered on the door and stormed in. In a panic, Becky explained: "They were watching me. Two of them. They keep walking past the yard and setting the security light's off. I think it's a couple of Curtis' guys. I climbed onto next door's balcony and down. They're probably still there! They probably spotted me on Betsy's Story!" Worried that their daughter was in trouble, Lisa set about calling Costello to inform him but hung up after Becky begged to stay over. Fed up of it all, Carla said: "You're on the couch," but when she came down later, she snuck up behind Becky, who had been looking at Costello's social media with her headphones. When Carla asked her what she was doing, she simply said: "It's called intelligence gathering." Determined to have the last word, Carla headed back off to bed and said: "If I were you, I'd put them headphones back on because that bed up there gets pretty squeaky!" Fans immediately took to social media to react to the dramatic scenes, and rather than taking issue with the threat on Becky's life, they were more angry that the whole sorry situation had prevented Carla and Lisa for getting married. One wrote: "so becky is legally dead lisa is legally a widow swarla can’t get married bc becky is actually alive but no one is gonna report becky for faking her death bc they’d all get in trouble and lisa can’t file for divorce bc the government think becky is dead." Another replied: "Yeah it's so messed up. Let Lisa marry Carla if Becky wants to ruin it she'll have to come out of hiding then she'll get in just as much trouble but also of the people who know about Becky, I doubt any of them would grass on Lisa that she actually knew too?" A third added: "Lisa and Carla can't get married? Yikes!" before adding: "I am glad Carla has given Lisa an ultimatum. This has dragged out for way too long, and is ridiculous. Carla deserves someone who can fully commit to her." A fourth said: "The realization in Lisa she may lose Carla , my heart breaks for them. It needed to be said as there’s always seems to be an obstacle In the way between Becky & now they can’t get married Carla needs more than words!"
