Coree Gonzales in court for stabbing former Fall River mayor

The suspect accused of stabbing the former mayor of Fall River, Massachusetts, earlier this week is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. Thirty-one-year-old Coree Gonzales was arrested Tuesday in connection with the stabbing of Will Flanagan on Monday night. Flanagan remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition. Gonzales has been charged with four counts of assault and battery on a police officer, as he reportedly assaulted officers while being arrested on Tuesday morning. It was not immediately clear what charges he faces in connection with Flanagan's stabbing. In court Tuesday, Gonzales was ordered held without bail pending a mental health evaluation scheduled for Wednesday morning. He is expected back in court on Wednesday. Meanwhile, WJAR has obtained surveillance video of the attack that shows Flanagan walking in front of the Tecumseh Mill Apartments when another man suddenly runs up from behind and attacks him. The two appear to struggle before Flanagan collapses to the ground. He is later seen standing up and stumbling toward the entrance to the apartment building as the suspect runs off. Watch the surveillance video here. Flanagan, 45, left office after losing a recall election in 2014. According to news reports, he is the CEO of Cosmopolitan Dispensary, which is located on Hartwell Street where the stabbing took place. In a live video Flanagan posted to Facebook earlier Monday, he talked about his store's cannabis prices.
