Cops for Cancer Tour de North 2025 has wrapped up and almost hit their fundraising goal.
The tour is an annual event during which police agencies and emergency service personnel cycle for seven days across northern BC, raising money for childhood cancer research and support services at the Canadian Cancer Society.
Donations are also given to Camp Goodtimes, a camp experience for sick kids in a medically-supervised, safe and supportive environment.
The 2025 edition had a goal of $250,000, and as of Sept. 19, they had reached 95 per cent of that. RCMP Media Relations Officer Corporal Jennifer Cooper said that is the closest they have gotten to hitting their goal in recent years.
Samuelle Simard, a paramedic in Smithers said it was nice to pull into her hometown on Sept. 16 after a tiring and long day.
“I’ve always wanted to do it because I love biking, and I think it’s a great cause,” she said. “This year, it worked out that I could manage it with my work schedule.”
The riders had a couple of rainy days but were in good spirits most of the journey, making stops at schools along the way to tell their stories.
Many companies, fire halls and police detachments along the route donated supplies, food and money.
The tour started in Prince George on Sept. 12 ended in Prince Rupert on Sept. 18.
