    COPEC and COMAC project an increase in fuel prices

    Fuel and other petroleum product prices are expected to rise from Tuesday, 16 September 2025.

    This is according to the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) and the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC).

    According to COPEC’s projections, petrol prices are expected to increase by 3.98%, diesel by 9.41%, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) by 7.65%.

    This means petrol will rise from GH¢13.09 to GH¢13.61 per litre at the pump, while diesel is projected to increase to GH¢14.08 from GH¢13.32. LPG is also expected to sell at GH¢12.52 per kilogram.

    COPEC attributes the anticipated increase to the recent depreciation of the cedi against the US dollar, which fell by 8.62% during the current pricing window, from GH¢11.03 to GH¢12.07.

    In a statement issued on Monday, 15 September 2025, Duncan Amoah, the Executive Secretary of COPEC, said the chamber expects oil marketing companies to absorb part of the increase by reducing their margins.

    This, he explained, would prevent consumers from being overburdened with steep pricing adjustments.

    “In conclusion, it’s the expectation of COPEC that the various Oil Marketing Companies try to absorb some portions of these upward adjustments by shelving some of their margins in order not to overburden the consumer with these expected steep pricing adjustments,” he wrote.

    COMAC also predicts fuel Price increases

    Meanwhile, the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) is also projecting fuel prices to increase from 16 September.

    According to them, petrol prices are expected to rise between 3.6% and 5.8%. Diesel is anticipated to increase between 2.2% and 4.3%, while LPG is forecast to go up by between 2.1% and 4.1%.

    These adjustments, as forecast by COPEC and COMAC, may impact household budgets and transport costs for many Ghanaians.

    Factors influencing fuel price fluctuations in Ghana often include global oil market trends, exchange rates, and regulatory policies.

    IES prediction comes to pass

    Around the same time last year, the Institute of Energy Security (IES) predicted that fuel prices would plummet in the first week of August.

    It was estimated that this drop could be as much as 4% in July’s pricing window.

    According to the IES, the reduction would be occasioned by favourable international market conditions.

    CBOD rebuts astronomical fuel price increment

    YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors said fuel prices were unlikely to see any major upward adjustment by the end of April.

    This was to dispel earlier speculation that fuel prices could hit as much as GH₵18 per litre by next week, with the CBOD CEO also urging consumers to avoid any panic.
