Reiterating the State government’s commitment in creating more infrastructure to encourage children to take interest in sports, Labour Minister and Dharwad district in charge Santosh Lad has sought the cooperation of everyone to further improve the ‘sports ambience’ in the district He was speaking after inaugurating the State-level men’s lawn tennis tournament in Dharwad on Friday. Mr. Lad said that Dharwad was making its mark visible in the sports arena and in Tennis too it had carved its place. “After Bengluru, Dharwad has become the lone city to have eight tennis courts,” he said. The Minister said that the tournament had received overwhelming response with over 300 players taking part. Arvind Bellad, MLA, said that Dharwad had shown progress in sports and all necessary help would be extended to boost it. He also appealed to the district in-charge Minister to take up comprehensive restoration of the historic Gymkhana Club of Dharwad, which was set up during the British rule. He mentioned that a stadium of international standards was nearing completion in Hubballi and it would help sportspersons in the region get training with advanced sports infrastructure. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, Chief Whip of Legislative Council Saleem Ahmed, MLC F.H. Jakkappanavar, Mayor Jyoti Patil and others were present.
