Consumerfed records sales of ₹187 crore during Onam

Consumerfed (Kerala State Co-operative Consumers Federation) has achieved a total sales of ₹187 crore this Onam through the outlets directly run by it.

Through the Onam fairs held at 750 supermarkets in the cooperative sector led by the federation, sales worth ₹125 crore had been achieved. Together, a total of ₹312-crore sales had been achieved through this year’s festival markets, P.M. Ismail, Chairman of Consumerfed, said on Tuesday.

The turnover of ₹187 crore was achieved through the 1,579 Onam fairs held under the aegis of co-operative societies and through Triveni supermarkets. Subsidy was provided for 13 essential items. Around 10% to 40% discount was provided to other items. The Onam fairs helped in checking inflation in the festival season, he said.

The federation had organised fairs at the State, district and rural levels from August 26 to September 4. The chairperson said the fairs recorded an impressive turnout of people.

According to official estimates, about 15 lakh litres of coconut oil priced at ₹339 a litre was sold through the Onam outlets. Of the ₹187-crore sales, ₹110 crore accounted for sale of subsidy items. The festival outlets also offered space for the sale of products of Milma, Regional Agro Industrial Development Cooperative of Kerala Ltd. (Raidco), and Kerala Dinesh, it said.
