James Gunn's latest update about Constantine 2 makes the movie look even closer to becoming reality and being a delightful addition to DC's movie roster. While DC's movie efforts are largely centered around the main DCU timeline as of now, projects outside of this sphere are still in the works, with The Batman 2 being a prime example. While Constantine 2 is in a similar ballpark - as a film that exists in an alternate world - the sequel has been in a complicated situation for some time, given its status and whether it will definitely go forward has been in more of a state of seeming uncertainty. However, the newest updates about the project bode well for hopeful fans. In a new interview with BobaTalks released in October 2025, James Gunn delved into the landscape of the DCU and its alternate universe Elseworlds releases - which naturally included a discussion about Constantine 2, since this is one of the most exciting Elseworlds prospects project-wise. One of the last Constantine 2 updates before this came when Keanu Reeves commented in a February 2025 interview with Inverse that the team had put together a pitch and "DC studios had said 'OK', so we're going to try and write a script." Building on from this, James Gunn explained where things were at as of the recording, stating: "I've discussed it with Keanu. So yeah - I think that's a great group of guys, I like all of those people a lot. I think they're talented, but I've not read a script yet." With a script seemingly on its way to Gunn or other DC Studios personnel, it seems very possible based on this timeline - and on Gunn's praise for the figures involved in the project, which strongly suggest he'd green-light the story they put together so long as the script held up - that Constantine 2 is closer than ever. Why Constantine 2 Has Been In Development For So Long The 2005 Constantine garnered something of a cult following after its release, but its overall reception mirrored the status of its titular protagonist, going more under the radar than many other DC movies with leads who were more prominent in pop culture. Naturally, this looks to have played a role in a prospective follow-up film taking considerable time. With DC's movie landscape - and who oversees it - having changed considerably since the mid-2000s, it makes sense that this process has taken some years, especially since the upheaval that took DC from the DCEU to the new DCU may have meant Constantine 2 seemed like less of a priority comparatively.
