Conor McGregor Officially Confirms Opponent For UFC White House Event

The UFC has never been shy of making history in combat sports ever since its inception in 1993, even more so since CEO and President Dana White took the reins after the Fertitta Brothers purchased the company in 2001.
Back then, the Ultimate Fighting Championship was worth $2m, while through their investment and White’s savvy business expertise and marketing, it has seen the rise of arguably the most prominent brand in all of combat sports today, with its titanic sale in 2016 for $4bn, and now rumoured to have quadrupled in worth in 2025.
It has seen the rise of some of the most electrifying fighters in the world, with events taking place globally, marking its worldwide reach and audience, while the UFC could be set to make groundbreaking history.
UFC White House Plans
A landmark card looks set for June 2026, on the south lawn of the White House no less, with White determined to “build the greatest card of all time” when speaking to Fox News.
The schedule for the event is in the works, and will coincide and commemorate America’s 250th birthday with an unprecedented piece of sports history, while it looks likely to include the biggest star to come out of the sport.
Conor McGregor’s Return Fight to UFC
Conor McGregor has been out of action since 2021, with his last bout coming in a defeat to Dustin Poirier after a doctor’s stoppage, though, the Irishman has, if anything, ballooned his notoriety with his inactivity outside the Octagon.
It has always been a push and pull relationship between White and McGregor. The former spotted the latter’s star quality at Cage Warrior’s in 2012, where he became the first-ever two-weight world champion, and vowed to do the same in the UFC. And sure enough, McGregor ran through the featherweight division on his way to infamously dethroning long-time champion Jose Aldo, before turning his attentions to lightweight.
He overcame adversity before he got his shot, avenging his gutting defeat to Nate Diaz at 170lbs with a career-defining effort, which came just months before McGregor produced one of the greatest championship performances in UFC history in 2016, dominating lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez to establish his polarising but electric legacy.
McGregor has always embraced the opportunity to make history, and, like a force of attraction, he looks set to do so again. Speaking to Fox News, the 37-year-old sounded enthused to get back in the Octagon.
“I’m on it (the White House card). (I’m fighting) Michael Chandler. We’ve done the show, the Ultimate Fighter, we’ve had a good back and forth. He’s a good, tough guy. The Mac is excited to get back for sure.”
Noise around McGregor’s return has been constant. White has always maintained his admiration for the star who reached unprecedented heights in the Octagon, and spoke about the Irishman’s drive to return, noting: “Conor and I have been talking consistently. He wants this fight bad. When you get to a level that Conor’s at, you’ve got to find things in life that motivate you and the White House card has definitely motivated Conor McGregor.”
