Country singer and Nashville native Connor McCutcheon will be performing his first show in Minnesota on Friday at the Turf Club, a “homecoming performance” for the musician and his family. Grandson of former Minnesota senator and St. Paul Police Chief William McCutcheon, Connor McCutcheon began making music as a college student in his dorm during the pandemic. Now, he is a signed musician to Spirit Music Group and Fluid Music Revolution and has been described as a musician on the rise with his pop-influenced country music. “Me and my roommate were super bored,” McCutcheon said. “And we just started messing around and making demos and ended up having a lot of fun doing it.” After college, McCutcheon began performing at music venues in Tennessee while working at a boat club and the local airport scrubbing hangar floors, until being discovered at a writers round by a representative of Spirit Music. Since signing, he has released two EPs, with his most recent titled, “Two Beers.” The six-song EP fuses the country influences of his home with the pop music he grew up listening to, specifically citing Justin Bieber as a major influence in his youth. Made in collaboration with songwriter and producer Brent Anderson, as well as musicians and songwriters from across Nashville, the album unpacks the turbulent fluctuations of a relationship. The EP was released on March 21, a little less than a year after his first EP, “Top of the Hill,” which was released in June 2024. McCutcheon has also hinted at new music coming early next year, which he stated he is extremely excited about. “Connor has the ability to write songs that draw you in lyrically and then deliver those songs with an honest, unique voice,” said Frank Rogers, chief creative officer of Spirit Music Group and CEO of Spirit Music Nashville. As the opening act of Chase Wright’s Find Myself Tour, McCutcheon said it was the perfect opportunity to visit his father’s hometown and perform for his Minnesotan friends and family. “I was like, ‘This is kind of a no-brainer to hop on this one,’ ” McCutcheon said. “Not a lot of them have had an opportunity to see me play in a long time, if ever.” Grandpa Bill Connor McCutcheon’s father, Kevin, is the son of William “Bill” McCutcheon, who died in June 2020 after a long career in public service in the Twin Cities. After his father’s death, Kevin McCutcheon said the money that was left to him was then divided among his four children and put toward them pursuing their dreams. The portion Connor received helped fund his first recordings of songs at Black Bird Studios in Nashville. “I had no idea what I wanted to do or what I wanted the songs to say, but he was the first catalyst into everything now that has happened,” McCutcheon said. “Without him and his support, and him looking down and being proud, I don’t know where I would be or if I would have ever gotten started. So I owe that to Grandpa Bill and that side of the family for being so supportive.” Grammy Award-winning producer Julian Raymond described McCutcheon as the future of country music after working together at Black Bird Studios. “I have seen and heard the future of country music, and his name is Connor McCutcheon,” Raymond said. “His songs, his voice and his visions make him the real deal. Country music will live long and prosper with artists like Connor McCutcheon.” His Friday performance at the Turf Club will consist of a mix of old and new music, with McCutcheon wanting to give a high-energy performance for the audience. “We’ve got a full band show ready that I think is going to be a lot of fun,” McCutcheon said. “People can expect super high energy the whole time.” Connor McCutcheon Who: Connor McCutcheon opening for Chase Wright Where: Turf Club, 1601 W.
