Congress leader slams Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat for ‘communal’ remarks

Koppal District Mahila Congress president Jyoti M. Gondabal has strongly criticised right-wing leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat for what she described as “objectionable and divisive remarks” made against women and religious communities during a public event in Dakshina Kannada district. In a press release issued on Saturday, Ms. Gondabal said that Mr. Bhat had displayed an “extremely regressive mindset” while speaking at a Deepotsava event held recently at Uppalige in Puttur taluk. Referring to Mr. Bhat’s reported comments about the Ullal Assembly constituency represented by Speaker U.T. Khader, she said that his remarks that a Hindu candidate cannot win from Ullal because Muslim (‘Beary’) families there have more children, and that Hindus are losing due to fewer votes, are not only misleading but also an insult to women and the democratic process. Ms. Gondabal said that such statements spread hatred and serve no constructive purpose. “Decisions on how many children to have belong to couples alone and no third party has the right to comment on it,” she said. “The people of this country are struggling with rising prices and unemployment, while the government seems more concerned with divisive politics,” she said.
