The need to strengthen fiscal reforms, improve regulatory compliance to and enhance national code of corporate governance will be the focal point at the 20th Anniversary Corporate Governance Conference organised by the Society for Corporate Governance in Nigeria (SCGN).
Scheduled for October 9, 2025 in Lagos, the conference with the theme, “Strengthening Ethical Governance in a Disrupted World: Reflections on the Governance Journey for a Sustainable Future,” will reflect on Nigeria’s governance progress over the past 20 years.
Speaking ahead of the event, Chief Executive Officer, Society for Corporate Governance in Nigeria (SCGN), Mrs. Chioma Mordi, said the event will not only celebrate the Society’s two decades of promoting governance standards in Nigeria but also convene regulators, board leaders, and industry experts to explore practical strategies for building resilient, future-ready institutions.
“For 20 years, SCGN has remained steadfast in promoting ethical governance in Nigeria. This anniversary conference is not just a celebration of our journey but a call to action for boards, regulators, and businesses to embrace accountability and resilience in a rapidly changing world,” Mrs. Mordi said.
The conference will feature insights from a distinguished lineup of speakers, with former Minister of Communication Technology, Dr. Omobola Johnson, delivering the keynote on ethical leadership in a disrupted environment.
She will be joined by Director-General of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Dr. Emomotimi Agama; GMD/CEO, NGX Group, Temi Popoola; and the Executive Secretary/CEO, FRCN, Dr. Rabiu Olowo.
Discussions will cover fiscal reforms, regulatory compliance, cross-border practices, board effectiveness, and the role of governance in driving national economic revitalisation.
Through keynote addresses, panel dialogues, and sector-wide engagements, the conference aims to equip directors, executives, and governance professionals with actionable strategies for embedding stronger governance frameworks that inspire long-term trust and withstand disruption.

Also speaking, Board member, SCGN, Ms Rabi Isma, said the 20 years milestone is a reflection of the Society’s journey as it consistently pursues transparency, accountability and sustainability for business leaders.
Isma said for the past 20 years, “We are strongly reflective on ethics which is our bedrock of sustainability and corporate governance in Nigeria while raising standards for leadership across sectors.
“Our regulatory compliance has helped to navigate disruption which inspires investors’ confidence, stakeholders’ growth and raising the bedrock for corporate governance amongst key players with our regulatory institutions.”
On his part, President of SCGN, Mr. Muhammad Ahmad, said: “Our 20th Anniversary Conference is a platform for thought leaders to shape the future of governance in Nigeria.
“We are bringing together some of the finest minds to provide practical insights that will strengthen trust, build sustainable organisations, and inspire the next generation of leaders.”
Importantly, the conversations, Ahmed explained, will extend to global trends such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) priorities, and other disruptive shifts that are increasingly reshaping boardroom strategies and ensuring businesses remain competitive, ethical, and sustainable in the long term.
One of the key highlights of the conference will be the introduction of an initiative, the Corporate Governance Awards, as part of SCGN’s anniversary celebration.
The awards, according to Mordi, will recognise institutions and leaders who have championed integrity, innovation, and sustainability in governance. “These awards highlight the importance of celebrating progress while setting higher standards for the future,” she said.
