Jimmy Kimmel’s show was indefinitely suspended by ABC after he made comments linking Charlie Kirk’s assassination to the “MAGA gang”.
Conan O’Brien publicly defended Kimmel, stating that the suspension and silencing of hosts for criticizing the administration is wrong.
It was a rare venture into hot-button issues for O’Brien, who has long said he prefers to leave political commentary to other comedians and has criticized boilerplate anti-Trump barbs in the past.
Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr criticized Kimmel for allegedly misleading viewers and suggested revoking broadcast licenses for stations airing “garbage” content, also threatening to investigate The View.
Numerous actors, celebrities, journalists, and politicians rallied behind Kimmel, with other late-night hosts like Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart also speaking out against perceived political pressure on broadcasters.
