Barwani: In a tragic incident, a woman working as a Community Health Officer (CHO) allegedly ended her life by jumping into the Narmada river from the 301-foot-high bridge in Chhoti Kasrawad village of Barwani district.According to news reports, the incident took place around 9:30 AM on Wednesday. The deceased, identified as a resident of Kalyanpura village, reportedly had an argument with her husband, a paediatrician, over a mangalsutra earlier that morning. Following the dispute, she left home on her scooter and headed towards the Narmada bridge, where she parked her vehicle and jumped into the river.Eyewitnesses immediately alerted nearby boatmen and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team stationed near the bridge. He added that after their argument, she stormed out of the house. Fearing she might take an extreme step, he immediately informed Dial 100 and the local police before following her in his car — but by the time he reached the bridge, it was too late.He said, "His wife was a CHO (Community Health Officer) and had been serving in the health department for many years. They have two children. He added, "She was very sensitive by nature, but she was always responsible towards her work and family. Taking such a step on a festival like Diwali is nothing short of a shock for us." According to villagers, she was known for her gentle nature and friendly personality. Her body was recovered and sent for a post-mortem. A case of accidental death has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
