Community at heart: 60 years together with COPE Galway

Galway has always been defined by its people, by the kindness, resilience, and spirit of community that shine brightest in times of need. At COPE Galway, the organisation is proud to have been part of this story for the past 60 years, working alongside the community to improve lives and strengthen local bonds.

Every day, the team at COPE Galway sees how the community’s support makes a difference. Whether it is a neighbour volunteering their time, a business donating goods, a school organising a collection, or an individual making a gift, the Galway community fuels its work. In return, the organisation works hard to create lasting change: providing safer homes for families subjected to domestic abuse, a lifeline for people experiencing homelessness, and stronger connections for older people at risk of isolation.

COPE Galway’s clients, staff and volunteers call Galway their home; they are neighbours and friends. The challenges the organisation faces reflect Galway’s own realities, and the solutions it creates are shaped by local compassion and determination. More than 3,000 people rely on its services each year, but the impact is collective, every act of kindness helps ensure that no one is left behind.

As COPE Galway steps into its 60th year, it does so with immense gratitude. It is a Galway organisation, grown from the needs of this place and its people. Looking forward, it imagines a community where everyone has a safe home, where ageing is embraced and respected, and where no one lives in fear.

The organisation’s vision is for a community where every person is valued, cared for, and supported at every stage of life. This vision is only possible because the Galway community continues to stand with it. For six decades, the community has given time, energy, and compassion, and together with COPE Galway, has created change that will ripple forward for generations.

There are many ways to get involved with COPE Galway’s work, from support through volunteering, donations, or fundraising to employment opportunities and community employment schemes.
