The 2025 edition of Ofala festival of Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe which brings thousands of Onitsha indegenes and visitors alike to the ancient town is to hold between October 7 and November 2.This was announced by theMarketing and Communications Subcommittee, headed by veteran journalist and former ace broadcaster Nna’emeka Maduegbuna.According to the committee “The Ofala Festival is a celebration of the rich heritage of the Onicha Ado N’Idu kingdom, showcasingroyal dances, tributes, parades, and music.“This year’s theme, ‘Njiko na Ntachi,’ Maduegbuna said “emphasizes the importance of community and resilience.”He added: “Festival 2025: A Celebration of Unity and Perseverance themed “Njiko na Ntachi” (Unity and Perseverance), promises to be an unforgettable experience, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Onicha Ado N’Idu kingdom”.According to him, thefestival will feature a range of traditional and modern activities.He gave highlights of the festival as:

Iru Ofala and Azu Ofala: the high points of which will feature the monarch’s parade and dance,as well as elaborate displays by age-grade societies in colourful uniforms, will take place on October17 and 18, 2025; Ofala Lecture Series: an annual lecture series named after Obi Nnaemeka Achebe, recognizing his contributions to public relations;Oreze Art Exhibition: a showcase of paintings, sculptures, and ceramics featuring works byNigerian and African artists;Ofala Youth Carnival: a colorful street funfair showcasing Onitsha’s cultural heritage; Medical, Health, and Wellbeing Community Outreach: A series of events promoting health and wellbeing in the community.Ofala Thanksgiving Service will be held to give thanks for the success of the festival and the monarch’s reign.Maduegbuna said: “The Ofala Festival is a celebration of the rich heritage of the Onicha Ado N’Idu kingdom, showcasingroyal dances, tributes, parades, and music. This year’s theme, ‘Njiko na Ntachi,’ emphasizes theimportance of community and resilience.“We aim to foster unity, promote resilience, and uphold enduring communal values that define ourcommunity. We invite all Nigerians and international visitors to join us in celebrating the rich culturalheritage of Onitsha”.The festival will be supportedby prominent organizations, among which are: National Council for Arts and Culture; Globacom Limited;International Breweries PLC andNigerBev Limited.
