LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday ordered a complete ban on commercial activities on Sundays to curb smog and also directed the government to ensure strict implementation of 10.00 pm deadline on wedding halls. The court hearing the petitions on smog and environmental issues ordered that a director-level officer from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) must appear at every hearing. Earlier, Lahore Deputy Commissioner (DC) informed the court that a notification had been issued regarding the closure of markets and restaurants by 10.00 pm and presented the notify action. The court observed that issuing a notification was not enough, but it must be implemented strictly. The court expressed concern that increasing pollution levels were worsening the smog problem and added the purpose of these restrictions was to control smog. Wasa’s counsel, also informed the court that the sewerage system was being upgraded. The court, therefore, directed the Wasa to submit details and timelines of its on going projects by next hearing on November 07. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025
