The Washington Commanders are one of the many teams NFL pundits have enjoyed linked to Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro edge rusher Maxx Crosby. But after Tuesday, it doesn’t appear Crosby is going anywhere. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Jane Slater reported the Raiders informed Crosby in a meeting Tuesday that they will not be trading him before the NFL trade deadline. The two insiders added that Crosby also wants to continue his relationship with the Raiders. That likely won’t end the Crosby rumors in the media. But the defensive end doesn’t appear to be available. A to Z Sports’ Josh Taylor, though, argued Tuesday the Commanders should pursue a different Raiders defensive end — former top 10 pick Tyree Wilson. “The Las Vegas Raiders are a bad team that could have some players available for trade before the deadline, and one of them is Tyree Wilson, who has been rumored as a trade candidate over the last few weeks,” Taylor wrote. “Wilson was the Raiders’ seventh overall pick in 2023, but things just haven’t worked out for whatever reason. “He was one of the top prospects in his class with a 6-foot-5, 263-pound frame and has athletic traits to work with.” Wilson only has 10 sacks and 12 tackles for loss in 40 NFL games. That’s not exactly great production considering the Raiders selected Wilson at No. 7 overall in 2023. But Taylor suggested a change a scenery could help, and the Commanders could use additional defensive line depth after defensive end Dorance Armstong Jr. landed on injured reserve Tuesday. Why Raiders’ Tyree Wilson Could Fit With Commanders NFL teams should almost always consider adding former top 10 picks. In this case, it depends on the trade compensation because Wilson is more of a potential flier than anything else. Taylor proposed Washington acquire Wilson without needing to give up draft picks. “The Commanders have only six 2026 NFL draft picks, with the opportunity to get another by a comp pick after losing Wise for the season, and they need to use every single one to improve the roster,” Taylor wrote. “They do, however, have two players I could see them trading to the Raiders for Wilson, cornerback Noah Igbinoghene, and offensive lineman Brandon Coleman, who has been inactive for the majority of the season.” As Taylor explained, the Raiders aren’t a good football team. So, it’s worth wondering if they would give up a former top 10 pick without receiving building blocks for the future. Commanders Placed Dorance Armstrong Jr. on Injured Reserve Taylor presented his argument Tuesday before Armstrong landed on IR. But with the defensive end sidelined, there’s an even bigger need for the Commanders to add at the position. After placing Armstrong on injured reserve Tuesday, the Commanders signed Jalyn Holmes. The 29-year-old has been off and on the Commanders active roster this season. Holmes has posted nine combined tackles in four games. Armstrong was off to a terrific start this season before his injury. He had 5.5 sacks with seven tackles for loss and seven quarterback hits in seven contests prior to his ailment. Armstrong registered five sacks, seven tackles for loss and 14 quarterback hits in 16 games during 2024.
