Heading into Monday’s Week 8 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Washington Commanders will be getting back injured wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Terry McLaurin for the game. However, it could very well be their always reliable tight end, three-time Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz, who is set for a rare milestone. Ertz is no longer the dynamic field stretcher that he once was earlier in his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite this, the former Super Bowl champion has carved out a very important role as a sure-handed weapon on the Commanders’ offense with a nose for the end zone. Thus far this season, Ertz leads the Commanders in receiving touchdowns with four, while also ranking second in receptions on the year. While Ertz likely won’t be utilized as one of the top receiving options on the Commanders on Monday night since both McLaurin and Samuel are returning to the fold, the 13-year NFL veteran could very well hit a career milestone that very few at his position have ever been able to accomplish. Notably, the other five on the list include three Hall of Famers, Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, and Shannon Sharpe, along with two players who could very well have a spot in Canton when it’s all said and done, Jason Witten and Travis Kelce. But as the saying goes, the best ability is availability, and Ertz has proven to be one of the most frequently available and productive tight ends in the history of the sport. Only time will tell whether Ertz will ultimately reach this milestone on Monday night. Either way, barring some kind of disastrous injury at some point this season, the Commanders’ star will be set to join this exclusive club at some point this year, cementing his status as one of the more underrated players of his generation in the process.
