The Washington Commanders are quickly going in the wrong direction. Their once-promising season is now teetering on the brink of disaster. With a 3-5 record, the Commanders have dug themselves a big hole in the NFC playoff picture. On Monday night, Washington played really hard. Their effort and intensity were on full display in the first half of that game. But, you have to be honest here, the Kansas City Chiefs are simply a better football team led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes. That was highlighted in their second-half performance. READ MORE | In his press conference the day after the game, head coach Dan Quinn told 7News Sports Director Scott Abraham that the team is remaining optimistic going forward. “I wanted to find improvement. I wanted to find momentum, you know, in spaces that could we create that. I felt there's some, in some spots, like, you know, I felt on the defensive side in the early parts of creating some takeaways, I felt that's the momentum that we're looking for," Quinn told Abraham. "I would say the optimism to know these are the things that we're going to work on to get better at and if we do those, you know, we know what the results will look like. So, everybody's frustrated, obviously disappointed. Those are like natural reactions. I think the more important thing is what are you going to do about it? And that's the work." "This is a good group of guys. So, like that part, they're mad, upset, like all those emotions you would think you also got to like go out on the field, you got to put the work in," Quinn said. Offensively, the Commanders have to get their run game going again. Since the Chargers' win, Washington rookie running back Bill Croskey-Merritt hasn't been the same. Against the Chiefs, the Commanders' running backs totaled only 31 yards on the ground. But it has to be, you know, the runs and the play passes. Those have to really be in concert together," Quinn said. "We hit a couple play passes yesterday, which was nice for us to do. Terry had one inside, but we've got to find our ways even to stick with it some when, you know, there are hard runs to go and one goes for one or zero, it can be frustrating, but you just dig, and you keep banging for it and you stay into that spot and that's, you know, what will work to do because it has to be a bigger part of our game.” Quinn also said Jayden Daniels had a good rehab session on Sunday. He added that Daniels will be part of Washington's practice plan this week. Next up for the Commanders is a Sunday night prime-time home game against Seattle.
