Commanders' Jayden Daniels Status In Doubt For Week 3 vs. Raiders

Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders had a tough Week 2 as they lost to the Green Bay Packers, 27-18.It was a physical game where Daniels took a lot of hits, including one that he had a noticeable limp after taking. It was announced over the weekend that he had received an MRI, and that an update would be given on Monday. On Monday afternoon, NFL Network reporters Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport reported that Daniels is dealing with a sprained knee, and that his status for Week 3 is unknown at the time.Daniels had a tough night against the Packers, as the Micah Parsons led defense was able to get pressure all night. Daniels was sacked four times in the game, and was running for his life the entire night. The second-year quarterback came up limping after he was tackled by Packers defensive lineman Kingsley Enagbare on a play that potentially could have drawn a flag for hip-drop tackle. He was able to stay in and finish the game, but he wasn’t 100 percent the rest of the game.Keeping Daniels healthy was a point of emphasis this off-season, as the Commanders traded for one of the best lineman in the game in left tackle Laremy Tunsil. If Daniels is unable to go, then the Commanders would be trotting out former Oregon Duck star Marcus Mariota to be the starting quarterback.Mariota is an experienced quarterback who is able to do a lot of the things at the quarterback position that offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury wants from his quarterback. He has been a starting quarterback for a long time in this league, and even showed last year in a short stint that he can still make plays,Last season, he played in three games, going 34-of-44 for 364 yards and four touchdowns.Injuries are starting to catch up to the Commanders early in the season, as the team had to sign running back Chase Edmonds to the practice squad on Monday after Austin Ekeler was lost for the year due to an achilles injury. This is a developing story that will continue to be updated throughout the week. The fact that injury occurred on Thursday night at least gave Daniels an extra couple days for treatment and recovery. The Commanders host the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday in Week 3, and it may be right up until that day when we find out who is starting for the Commanders. For more on the Washington Commanders and the NFL, visit Newsweek Sports.
