COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Columbia Fashion Week returns for its 15th year with seven days of events celebrating fashion, style, culture and community from November 2-8. CEO Juliette Muller said the premier Midlands fashion event empowers emerging creative talent through multiple showcases, including underground streetwear runway shows on Main Street, a thrift-the-runway competition with Goodwill, and the finale runway featuring nine showcases Saturday. Local designer Diko Pekdemir-Lewis, who founded Anton & Maxine in Germany before moving to Columbia in 2016, showcased handmade pieces including blazers, coats and dresses made in her Five Points studio. The week kicks off Sunday with a pre-launch at the Moxy rooftop, followed by a magazine launch Monday, fitness event Tuesday, fashion town hall Wednesday, runway shows Thursday and Friday, and the finale Saturday. Events aim to bridge gaps in the local fashion community and provide platforms for designers and models. The Thrift the Runway competition Friday, November 7 at 701 Valley highlights sustainable fashion through a partnership with Goodwill, where stylists compete to create runway-ready looks from thrifted items. Derek Munch from Goodwill said the collaboration supports the organization’s mission of helping people pursue their goals while promoting sustainable fashion and self-expression through affordable clothing. Muller said she created the platform for wardrobe stylists to showcase creativity while demonstrating that fashion can be both stylish and accessible. The winning stylist will work on special projects with Goodwill and Columbia Fashion Week throughout the upcoming year, with tickets available on the website and Eventbrite.
