College of Physicians and Surgeons to admit 12 Doctors

By: Naneka Hoffman Monrovia, Liberia; October 22, 2025 - The Secretary General of the Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons (LCPS), Dr. Philderald Pratt, has disclosed that twelve specialized doctors are expected to be admitted into the fellowship of the College during its ninth Convocation and Annual General Scientific Meeting scheduled for Friday in Paynesville. Speaking in an exclusive interview, Dr. Pratt explained that the upcoming ceremony will increase the number of specialized and well-trained medical doctors in Liberia to 155, covering fields such as pediatrics, internal medicine, family medicine, psychiatry, general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and ophthalmology. He further revealed that after the convocation, the newly admitted doctors will be deployed by the Ministry of Health across the country to provide advanced medical and surgical services, thereby strengthening the health pillar of the government’s ARREST Agenda. According to Dr. Pratt, since its establishment, the College has played a critical role in boosting Liberia’s postgraduate medical training program, ensuring that specialized healthcare is accessible within the country. He also noted that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Nagbe Koon, is expected to deliver the keynote address at the event, which will highlight the significance of the College’s contribution to Liberia’s healthcare system. Dr. Pratt said day one of the scientific meeting will feature presentations of research reports and studies by doctors, showcasing ongoing efforts to improve healthcare delivery and medical education in Liberia. The Secretary General encouraged Liberians to trust and utilize the expertise of local doctors, emphasizing that there are now qualified professionals in almost all medical sectors across the nation. He also urged graduates of the University of Liberia’s A.M. Dogliotti College of Medicine and other medical institutions to pursue specialization at the LCPS, helping to reduce the number of Liberians traveling abroad for medical treatment. Established by an Act of the Legislature on May 22, 2013, with former Vice President Joseph Nyuma Boakai serving as its chief launcher, the LCPS aims to train specialized doctors locally, who will uphold high standards of medical excellence and serve across Liberia’s 15 counties.
