There are times when visceral responses — those that instantly flow from the gut — outsmart the contemplative responses. If not for the visceral, how would we hit the brakes when a kid chasing a ball suddenly runs in front of our car? We wouldn’t suddenly consider whether it’s a good idea to apply the brakes, would we? President Joe Biden, before it became clear that he was neurologically impaired, expressed unconditional legislative support for transgender people, including biological males participating in female sports. Thus, if, say, his granddaughter endlessly trained to become a superior athlete, he’d applaud the biological male who defeated her — blew her away in a mismatch — in the state high school finals, he’d applaud the victor?
