Colab Platforms forays into drone tech with RRP Group tie-up

Colab Platforms, a diversified technology platform, has forayed into the fast-growing drone technology sector by signing a memorandum of understanding with RRP Drones Innovation.

The proposed partnership aims to establish a special purpose vehicle for the development, manufacturing and deployment of AI-powered autonomous drones with applications spanning from border security surveillance, industrial sites, law enforcement, agriculture and environment protection.

The foray marks Colab entry into a new technology vertical that aligns with its strategy of building future-ready platforms in sunrise industries.

E-sports platforms

By joining hands with RRP Drones, Colab is expanding from digital, sports, fintech and esports platforms into aerospace and drone technology, a sector projected to scale rapidly in India and globally.

Global commercial drone market is expected to touch $55-$90 billion by 2030, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between 8-14 per cent.

In India, the drone sector is estimated to touch ₹1.95 lakh crore by 2030, supported by government incentives, production linked incentive (PLI) schemes, and agriculture adoption initiatives.

Government support, including the PLI scheme for drones (₹120 crore) and the kisan drone subsidy programme, provides a strong foundation for scaling adoption across industries.

Puneet Singh, Managing Director, Colab Platforms said drone technology is at the intersection of AI, robotics and national priorities such as security and agri-productivity.

Sustainable value

Through this collaboration, Colab aims to create sustainable value for its stakeholders by tapping into a government supported high-CAGR sector, he added

Anay Rajendra Chodankar, Director, RRP Drones Innovation said the tie-up positions the company to accelerate manufacturing, software roadmaps and commercial deployments across surveillance and agriculture.

The company looks forward to converting pilot success into scaled, multi-year programmes, he said.

The partnership goes beyond technology to create tangible solutions for real world challenges.

The autonomous aerial surveillance will help protect critical infrastructure, enhance law enforcement, revolutionise agriculture and strengthen our defence and national security.
