After 2 hung juries, U.S. plans to try woman again on immigration charge: Two juries have been unable to decide whether Doris Aleman-Bonilla is innocent or guilty of a felony charge of reentering the country illegally after being deported. The second trial, held in Syracuse, ended Wednesday in a deadlock. Acting U.S. Attorney John Sarcone told a judge Thursday that he intends to try for a third time to convict the Honduran woman.
SU frat: Rosh Hashanah attack an ‘act of ignorance, intolerance and hatred’: The president of a Syracuse University fraternity said an antisemitic attack, when student entered and threw a bag of pork into the fraternity house on Rosh Hashanah, was an “act of ignorance, intolerance and hatred.” The president of the historically Jewish fraternity said the incident was a reminder for the Jewish community of “an increased sense of antisemitism in the world today.”
CNY fire department treasurer pleads guilty to stealing $92K: A former treasurer of an Oneida County volunteer fire department has pleaded guilty to stealing $92,000 from the department. The woman stole the money over a seven-year period, according to the state Comptroller’s Office.
