CNN Max live news leaving HBO Max as CNN plans own streaming service

Streaming service HBO Max is losing its live news channel as CNN Max live will soon leave the platform. In an email sent to subscribers this month, HBO Max confirmed the 24/7 news channel will be leaving its platform as of Nov. 17, 2025.
“Starting on November 17, 2025, the CNN Max live news feed will no longer be available on HBO Max,” reads the email. “You will continue to have access to select CNN Originals, including award-winning documentaries and series, available as part of your subscription.”
The channel launched in the fall of 2023 and has been part of the HBO Max subscription since its debut. The decision to have the new channel leave HBO Max comes as CNN prepares to offer its own paid streaming service later this year. CNN has not confirmed a date from when the new app will be available.

“CNN has benefitted tremendously from its two years of offering a live 24/7 feed of news to HBO Max customers,” said CNN’s Executive Vice President of Digital Products and Services, Alex MacCallum. “We learned from HBO Max’s large base of subscribers what people want and enjoy the most from CNN, and with the launch of our own new streaming subscription offering coming later this fall, we look forward to building off that and growing our audience with this unique, new offering.”
While HBO Max customers are losing a service, last month, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav –WBD owns HBO Max — hinted that price increases are coming for the service. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zaslav referenced the potential increase while speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference.
Zaslav said that HBO Max will soon be in 150 million homes in the U.S. and with its extensive catalog, the service is prime for an increase.
“The fact that this is quality — and that’s true across our company, motion picture, TV production and streaming quality — we all we think that gives us a chance to raise price,” Zaslav said. “We think we’re way underpriced. We’re going to take our time.”
