Monrovia, Liberia; October 29, 2025 - Liberia’s newest political party, Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), says it will not negotiate a merger with any political party for its political leader to contest for the vice presidency in 2029. CMC political leader, Representative Musa Hassan Bility, said his party is not opposed to meager, but it was never established to seek a Vice Presidential slot “because we are here for state power.” Representative Bility spoke when he appointed Madam Weade Powell as National Vice Chairperson, shortly after declaring her membership in the Citizens Movement for Change in Congo Town, during the weekend. “CMC is here to tell the Liberian people that they do not have to be in the circle of two parties. When this person is ready, it entangles you within the Unity Party and the Congress for Democratic Change political wrangling because the CMC will provide the alternative.” According to Bility, the only thing the CMC will never accept is negotiating to contest the vice presidency, because that is outside the negotiation. He pointed out that there are lots of qualified people in the United States who will be returning home next year in preparation to go to their hometowns and villages, purposely to vote out most of these current representatives in the House of Representatives. He disclosed that Madam Weade Powell’s appointment was based on consultation by the national executive committee. He said Madam Powell has been mandated to liaise with other political parties of like minds. Still, he warned that the CMC will never settle for any vice-presidential candidacy or for serving as a running mate to a Presidential candidate. Accepting her letter of appointment, Madam Weade Powell disclosed that she has recognized the seriousness of the CMC in governing Liberia, based on the competence of the personalities that constitute the party’s leadership. She assured the CMC that she will do all within her power to ensure the party achieves victory at the ballot box in 2029. According to her, she has seen seriousness in the CMC, evidenced by the caliber of its leadership, ready to work to ensure they win state power. Madam Powell vowed that she will not wait until CMC takes state power, and they will be preparing to govern because the party does not have to win before preparing to govern. The ceremony, held in the CMC conference room, was graced by members of the executive committee, including the National Chairman, National Secretary General, National Chairlady, and Youth Chair, among others.
