Earlier this month, AJ Lee made a historic return to WWE after a decade away from professional wrestling. She came back to the company to side with her husband, CM Punk, in his feud with Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch. Many didn’t think they’d ever see her back in the squared circle and especially in WWE considering the issues she previously had with them.
Now, CM Punk, who made a legendary return to WWE despite previous animosity himself in 2023, has revealed what he said to Lee to convince her to come back to the promotion and wrestle once again.
Punk Told AJ the Company Had Changed
Back in early 2014, CM Punk stormed out of WWE after a series of issues that he had with the company and it looked as though he’d never return. He spoke negatively about them publicly on more than one occasion and it seemed as though there was no way to mend those bridges. That ultimately wasn’t the case, though, and in late 2023, he appeared at the end of Survivor Series and shocked the world. He put his grievances with WWE behind him and has since been shining in the ring again. Following his initial exit, though, his wife also decided to step away, but now she has also returned and he’s revealed what he said to her to convince AJ to make that decision.
Speaking to ESPN, he said:
“Honestly, it was one of those things where I told her that the place was 180 degrees, maybe 360, I don’t know, different than when she left it. And all these wrestlers that really grew up watching her, got into the business because of her, were inspired to follow their dreams because she followed hers on such a grand stage – they were all in the company now, and I just thought it would have been a great way for her to see and understand how great she is and how much she’s loved.
“So that’s the other fun part of being around and witnessing it. And I just kind of had to explain, like, you’ve gotta see it to believe it.”
