CM inaugurates new school facilities in Kanniyakumari district

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated additional classrooms and other infrastructure facilities at three schools in Kanniyakumari district at a cost of ₹4.61 crore through video conference on Saturday.

During the event, he laid the foundation stone for additional buildings and infrastructure facilities at nine government schools in the district, including Government High School in Kottaram, Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Kadiyapattinam, and Government Higher Secondary School in Kattathurai at an estimated cost of ₹10.20 crore.

Following the formal inauguration by the Chief Minister, Dairy Development Minister T. Mano Thangaraj participated in the event held at S.L.B. Government Higher Secondary School in Nagercoil.

Speaking at the event, he emphasised that the State government was working to preserve and organise the heritage of antiquity of schools across the State. Highlighting that education was a fundamental tool to bring about societal changes, he exhorted the government school teachers to uplift students coming from diverse backgrounds.

“We are growing rapidly in the education sector. However, there is a need and situation where we still need to grow much more education,” Mr. Thangaraj said.

He added that even if government schools provide infrastructure and qualified teachers, it would not create any changes unless students made wise decisions regarding their education.

It was noted that the facilities at SLB School were developed at an outlay of ₹3.9 crore with 12 additional classrooms, a laboratory, toilet, and drinking water facilities.

Kanniyakumari District Collector R. Alagumeena, Tamil Nadu State Food Commission Chairperson N. Suresh Rajan, Nagercoil Mayor R. Mahesh, and Chief Educational Officer Balathandayuthapani were present.
