The Centre for Local Governance Advocacy (CLGA) has commended the government for releasing about GH¢1.4 billion to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), describing the disbursement as both timely and significant.
According to the CLGA, this move demonstrates the government’s commitment to strengthening the decentralisation process and empowering local authorities to effectively deliver on their mandates.
In a statement, the Centre noted that the timely release of funds enhances planning and implementation of development projects, while the magnitude of the transfer gives assemblies greater capacity to respond to citizens’ needs in areas such as education, health, sanitation, and infrastructure.
The organisation further urged the MMDAs to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of the funds, to build public trust and reinforce the government’s efforts to deepen local governance.
The CLGA also reaffirmed its commitment to working with government, civil society, and development partners to promote effective decentralisation and improved service delivery across the country.
